Carpenters Union Local 579 Recognized for Contribution to Surgical Care

On August 30, 2016, the Health Care Foundation held a ceremony to name a newly completed Integrated Operating Suite at the Health Sciences Centre in recognition of the Carpenters Union, Local 579’s extraordinary support for surgical care. 

Through a fund created within the Hebron Project, the Building Trades Workers of the Newfoundland and Labrador Building and Construction Trades Council, including members of the Carpenters Union Local 579, have provided $10 million to surgical care at the Health Sciences Centre and St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital! The result of this commitment is the replacement of medical equipment and technology in 17 traditional operating rooms, transforming them into state-of-the-art Integrated Operating Suites.
