Vale Making a Difference

Vale is a long-time partner of the health care foundation, committed to enhancing health care in Newfoundland and Labrador. Through an investment of over $4 million, Vale has supported a number of innovations and advancements at Eastern Health, especially for cardiac patients.

Hybrid Operating Room

We recently renewed our partnership with Vale to strengthen cardiac care in our province. Through a multi-year commitment, Vale has committed $2.5 million towards the creation of a state-of-the-art hybrid operating room. Stay tuned for updated on this innovative project.

SPECT Scanners

Vale in partnership with Trades NL jointly gave $1.4 million towards two single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) scanners at Eastern Health. A SPECT Scanner is a daignostic tool that combines the capability of nuclear medicine and radiology to create fused images that help diagnose and monitor cardiac and cancer patients' treatment.

Today, these scanners are housed at the new Nuclear and Molecular Imaging Facility at the Health Sciences Complex.

Cardiac Catheterization Suites

Through the Long Harbour Project, Vale along with Trades NL donated in excess of $1.6 million to the Foundation to support the revitalization of the cardiac catheterization suites at the Health Sciences Centre. In 2014, two of the revitalized catheterization suites were formally named in honour of Vale and the RDTC (Trades NL).
