Health Care Foundation Exceeds Fundraising Goal at Annual Charity Golf Tournament

St. John’s - The Health Care Foundation is pleased to announce that it raised $96,610 for Eastern Health’s Provincial Cardiac Care Program at its annual Charity Golf Tournament and Johnson Hearty Lunch on June 18, 2015.

“On behalf of the Board of Directors and staff of the Health Care Foundation, we sincerely thank all of our donors, sponsors and participants who helped make this year’s annual golf tournament a tremendous success,” said Debbie Patten, Chair, Health Care Foundation’s Board of Directors. “We had a great turn out and superior weather for this year’s golf outing, and most importantly we successfully raised the funding needed to purchase state-of-the-art cardiac care equipment.”

Proceeds from Annual Charity Golf Tournament will be used to purchase Intraoperative Blood Flow and Graft Patency Equipment for Eastern Health's Provincial Cardiac Care Program. This equipment offers both proven transit time flow measurement (TTFM) and Doppler velocity measurements that are specifically designed for intraoperative blood flow and graft patency verification. The system is used to asses graft blood flow during coronary artery bypass (CABG) surgery and helps reduce early graft failure, stroke, myocardial infraction or recurrent angina. The equipment uses two well established ultrasound principles to measure graft patency in CABG; transit time flow measurement (TTFM) and Doppler velocity.

"The funds from the golf tournament will play a significant role in the continued advancement of Cardiac Care for patients in Newfoundland and Labrador,” said Sean Connors, Clinical Chief of Cardiac Care at Eastern Health. “The graft patency assessment device gives surgeons the confidence to know that the intra-operative coronary bypass performed is of excellent standard. I want to thank the Health Care Foundation for supporting this technological innovation which will help improve the outcomes and safety of our patients undergoing cardiac surgery. “

The event was made possible by the support of a number of sponsors, especially the presenting sponsors, Zoll and Canadian Medical Products Inc. and the Hearty Lunch Sponsor, Johnson Insurance. A complete list of sponsors is available in the below backgrounder.
