Lions Clubs Donate $30,000 to the Agnes Cowan Hostel

St. John’s, NL – The Health Care Foundation recognized the Lions Clubs of Newfoundland and Labrador, Districts N3 and N4, today for their dedication to improving the Agnes Cowan Hostel. Thanks to a donation of approximately $30,000, new televisions are being placed in all rooms and common areas at the hostel, which are used by both patients and their family members.

“The Health Care Foundation and Agnes Cowan Hostel extend a heartfelt thank you to the Lions Clubs of Newfoundland and Labrador, Districts N3 and N4, for their support,” said Paul Snow, President and CEO, Health Care Foundation. “These televisions provide patients and families staying at the hostel with a welcomed distraction and comfort that will help ease the burden of their medical journey.”

After a visit to the Agnes Cowan Hostel, Len Mooney, Past Council Chair, recognized a need to provide a distraction for patients and families. A request was made to all Lions Clubs in the province to donate funds that would enhance the comfort of patients and families during their stay.

Mr. Mooney and Cyril Simmonds, Past District Governor (PDG) started this project in 2015 and it was continued by Paul Abbott, PDG, Val Clarke, District Governor (DG), Penny Pike, PDG and Sam Wells, DG, to ensure completion.

“Once a need is identified by Lions members, we are committed to finding creative ways to fulfill that need,” said Mr. Mooney. “We are fortunate to have such a committed group that understands the complex needs within our health care system and works together to improve health care in our province.”
