2018 Comfort in Care™ Grant Recipients

Health Care Foundation Awards Over $50,000 in Grants to Enhance Patient Comfort and Care

St. John’s, NL - The Health Care Foundation announced today the recipients of its Comfort in Care™ grants, which award over $50,000 annually in funding to frontline employees of Eastern Health. The recipients were recognized at a ceremony yesterday held at Pleasant View Towers in St. John’s.

“The Comfort in Care™ program is about creating care experiences for patients and families visiting our facilities that emphasize both quality and comfort,” said Debbie Patten, Chair, Health Care Foundation’s Board of Directors. “What we love about this program is that it allows the Foundation to partner directly with frontline health care professionals to identify and fund items that will enhance a patient’s comfort, care and well-being. The response to these grants has been overwhelmingly positive, and we thank everyone who took the time to apply.”

Items funded through the Comfort in Care™ program may include sleeper chairs, blanket warmers, wheelchairs, recreational activities and more. This year, a total of 46 grants were awarded to health care professionals for the purchase of patient comfort items. A complete list of grant recipients can be found below.

Funding for the 2018 Comfort in Care™ grants has been provided by Johnson Insurance and the Gary Rowe Memorial Comfort in Care Fund. Donations are also received from individual donors who give to the Health Care Foundation’s Comfort In Care™ program.

“Johnson Insurance is proud to be a long-time supporter of the Health Care Foundation and its Comfort in Care™ program,” said Bob Dowden, Vice-President, Affinity Client Relations, Johnson Insurance. “It is always rewarding when you get to witness how these comfort items contribute to the everyday care and support of patients and their families, and the dedication that Eastern Health employees have towards improving the comfort of those they serve.”
