The Health Care Foundation is a philanthropic partner to Eastern Health that supports adult hospitals and facilities within the St. John’s region, and tertiary care for all of Newfoundland and Labrador.

We are a registered non-profit organization governed by a volunteer-led board of directors.

Thanks to the support of our donors, we have made incredible improvements and advancements in health care here at home. We have provided millions to Eastern Health for vital equipment, technology, research, education and comfort items that improve the care experience for our patients and their families.  

Position Description

The Chief Development Officer (CDO) fosters a culture of philanthropy and donor stewardship at the highest level.  Under direction of the CEO, the CDO will oversee the development of all fundraising programs at the Health Care Foundation, with the overall goal of raising funds to improve health care right here at home.  

Responsibilities include:

  • Manage the fund development team and provide leadership to the various programs, including Major Giving, Special Events, Annual Giving and Planned Giving.
  • Ensure that philanthropy and fund development are carried out in keeping with the Foundation’s values, mission, vision, code of ethics, and plans.
  • Develop the organization’s Fundraising Plan, and support the team in the implementation and measurement of its strategies and budget.
  • Provide support in developing donor relationships and recognizing contributions.
  • Develop a strategic vision for growth for all fundraising program areas.
  • Increase revenue for the Foundation through the development of innovative fundraising concepts.

Required skills and experience:

  • 3-5 years of fundraising experience in a management position;
  • Post-secondary education required, or a combination of experience and education would be considered;
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge and other fundraising technologies would be an asset;
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Self-motivated with a desire to exceed objectives;
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment; and
  • Strong multi-tasking and time management skills.
  • Demonstrate initiative while working as a team player.
