Chairs for Dialysis Patients
When the Health Care Foundation embarked on the Great Dialysis Chair'ity' Fundraiser in 2006, the dialysis units at the Health Sciences Centre and the Waterford Hospital were in need of 30 new chairs. Thanks to our donors we have funded nearly 20 chairs so far.
People requiring dialysis treatment visit the dialysis units three times a week for at least four to five hours at a time. They are seated for the duration of their treatment so having comfortable chairs is quite important to them. The new, donated chairs have features such as side tables for meals and reading materials, variable positions for lying back to sleep and adjustments for postural problems. These chairs greatly enhance the quality of care and comfort for dialysis patients.
