Aphaeresis Machine
A very kind and generous bequest from Gerry and Sheila Lynch is helping patients with cancer, particularly blood cancers, such as leukemia, and bone marrow disorders. Their bequest to the Health Care Foundation funded the purchase of a state-of-the-art Aphaeresis Machine which is used to separate and extract stem cells, platelets and other components from the blood of patients or healthy donors. The stem cells and platelets are used for cancer patients who have undergone chemotherapy and radiation and are unable to generate enough platelets and blood components of their own.
Thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Lynch, Newfoundland and Labrador is one of the very few health centres in the country with this advanced technology.
